SEATING ON A KEG OF GUN POWDER – Engr Jumade Adejola

The MD/CEO of SURVEILLANT FIRE LIMITED Mr Jumade Adejola, who is a certified fire prevention engineer has again offered advice to the Government and people of Lagos State over incessant cases of fire incidents which has become almost a daily occurrence in the state.

His stance was made known in a comment made on His Excellency Gov Sawo-Olu’s Instagram post where he advised that citizens should take preventive measures in order to avert or minimize cases of fire outbreaks ravaging the State.
He advised Mr Governor on the location of gas refilling plants around the residential areas of the state despite being the constitutional right of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to approve, yet it is the primary duty of the State Governor, as the chief security officer of the state to ensure safety of lives and properties.

Mr Adejola regretted that the resultant effects of these fire incidents which often come with loss of lives, injuries to persons and destruction of buildings can all together be averted or at most minimized in consequence. He therefore advocated for an immediate audit of these gas refilling plants in the state so as to avert any disaster.

Engr Jumade Adejola’s response

“My own Mr Governor, we are seriously calming down as duly advised, but Mr Governor sir we are seriously concerned about various explosions in Lagos State. As a Fire Engineer and a supposedly Fire & Safety Consultant, it is high time we audit the siting of Gas plants and Gas/Petrol Stations within the residential areas in our State. Though your Excellency Sir, may want to think that the approval of these are basic responsibilities of the DPR but they are within our State and our responsibility is to our people and must ensure our safety. We need to look into this as a matter of urgency if we must truly calm down my Governor. Lastly maybe I also remind you as well that where your office is located is also not safe as we have gas line around Alausa CBD and this is also a “Risky” area if actions are not taking as we have many of these stations around the Gas Pipeline on CBD. Your Excellency please CALM DOWN as we are also CALMING DOWN sir.”
